SUMMARY:ACL Injury Prevention and Return to Sport Testing
DESCRIPTION:Anterior Cruciate tears are the most common ligamentous injury of the knee. Approximately 75% of ACL injuries are non-contact in nature. Sports that involve random intermittent multi-directional (RIMD) movement demands are associated with a higher rate of ACL injuries than those that do not have RIMD movement demands. This presentation will include a brief historic review of non- contact Anterior Cruciate injury prevention as well as a review of current programs to implement. Current literature will be reviewed to update injury and re-injury rates as well as modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors associated with non-contact ACL injuries. Advanced rehabilitation considerations and concepts of return to sport strengthening\, neuromuscular re-education and safe return to sport preparation will discussed. Two research validated safe to return to sport testing programs will be presented. The participants will learn how to introduce basic technology and applications into the clinic to assess these movements. \nAbout the Speaker \nBrian Mullins\, PT\, MS specializes in the care of complex physical therapy patients who need individualized physical therapy treatment. While at Duke University\, obtaining his Master’s degree\, he worked at The Center for Living\, Duke University’s premier wellness center. Here Brian worked with orthopaedic\, neurological\, cardiac and pulmonary patients who needed varying levels of care. \nBrian received his Bachelor’s of Science in Biology with a concentration in athletic training from Glassboro State College and has more than 20 years experience working with the everyday athlete to elite athletes of all ages. \nRecently\, Brian completed advanced training in functional biomechanics of the lower quarter; integrating technology into physical therapy practice from the Movement Performance Institute in Los Angeles California. This course work paired today’s technologies with a comprehensive understanding of normal and pathological biomechanics\, to develop an evidence based plan of care and return to sport readiness. \nBrian is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and former Treasurer of the American Physical Therapy Association of New Jersey. \nZoom link sent at registration.
