SUMMARY:Pathophysiology and its Clinical Implications for Physical Therapy in Children with Cerebral Palsy (2 CEs)
DESCRIPTION:Cerebral Palsy is a common\, yet very complex\, childhood neurological disorder. This webinar will present current understanding of the pathophysiology of the neurologic and muscle tissue properties that result in weakness in children with CP.  The impact of that pathophysiology on posture and function\, including gait\, will be discussed.  Principles of treatment will be presented in relation to that pathophysiology\, including repetition\, frequency\, timing and intensity of therapy.  Current evidence of treatment such as botox\, serial casting\, backwards walking and whole body vibration will be some of the approaches discussed. \nABOUT THE SPEAKER \n \nRosemary Gambatese\, PT\, MSPT \nRosemary Gambatese\, PT\, MSPT\, is a graduate of St. Bonaventure University with a BS in Biology and Arcadia University with an MSPT. She is a Clinical Specialist at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation’s Flanders outpatient campus. She is also an adjunct instructor at Rutgers University School of Health- Related Professions\, Department of Physical Therapy\, Newark campus.  In addition\, she is a consultant for early intervention in New Jersey for Sunny Days\, Inc. and contract therapist for agencies providing physical therapy in school settings. She has had over 15 years of experience as a school physical therapist working in a variety of public and non-public schools. Practicing for over 30 years\, Rose brings a wide range of experience and clinical expertise to her specialty areas of pediatrics and neurology. She has presented for APTANJ in the past including a case study on the use of constraint-induced therapy for a child with hemiplegia and seminars on evidenced-based treatment of congenital muscular torticollis and School PT.
