Research shows that the excess force from long periods of breath holding while sustaining pushing can be harmful to the perineum, resulting in tears and weaker pelvic floor muscles, months or years after birth. This class will cover the relationship between the baby and the pelvis and the role of the pelvic floor in birth. Education on physiological 2nd Stage of Labor and how to push with or without an epidural to best protect the pelvic floor and core to minimize damage. This presentation will include some birthing positions and breath for the different phases of pushing and how best to prepare.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Chantal Traub, CD(DONA), CCCE, LCCE

Chantal Traub is a certified women’s health coach, doula, childbirth educator, yoga instructor specialized in pre/postnatal yoga and MUTU® Systems trainer and has been assisting expecting families in New York since 2003. She is passionate about educating and informing women about pelvic health during pregnancy and to train the body and mind for an efficient and positive birth experience. Chantal created her Pushing Power, Protect the Perineum for Birth! and Birthing Strong workshops, which educate about 2nd Stage Labor and the pelvic floor, to push safely and effectively and to minimize damage and facilitate moms to enter their births with confidence and calm. Chantal lives in Brooklyn with her husband and 2 children and you can find them hiking upstate or swimming in lakes during the summer.
