CRPS: A Journey from misunderstood and doomed to understanding and hope

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), is a perplexing condition that challenges patients and healthcare professionals alike. The audience will learn how the Budapest Criteria is one tool that can aid in diagnosing CRPS. Dr. Caldwell will then unravel the neurobiological underpinnings of CRPS, emphasizing how the somatosensory cortex and other parts of the central nervous system process signals from the periphery. Lastly, attendees will traverse principles of pain neuroscience education and graded motor imagery as tools used to retrain sensation and to return to function.

About the Speaker

DeAndre W. Caldwell, PT, DPT, ATC, OCS, Cert. MDT, TPS

Dr. DeAndre W. Caldwell is the physical therapy program manager at Christiana Care Rehabilitation Services in Smyrna, DE and he is passionate about treating those with low back pain and chronic pain.

DeAndre is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist, as recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and an APTA certified clinical instructor. In addition, he has advanced training and holds dual credentials as a certified therapeutic pain specialist and certified Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) clinician for treatments of low back pain, neck pain and extremity pain.

DeAndre’s career ranges from working in sports medicine with the New York Giants to working with those with spinal cord injuries at Magee rehabilitation in Philadelphia. DeAndre regularly lectures on treatments of spinal conditions as well as Chronic pain at the Collegiate, local and national level.

He is very active in his church and in the community. DeAndre has a message of hope that the body is extremely adaptable and there is often a chance for positive change.
