Specialized Rehabilitation Strategies for Individuals with Spinal Cord Injury/Dysfunction
Relevance to Clinicians: Specialized education and training is needed to effectively address the unique needs of individuals with SCI/D. Each year approximately 1600 individuals sustain a spinal cord injury in the Mid-Atlantic region. The majority of these individuals may start their initial rehabilitation at a specialized center, but continue it through home care, skilled nursing facilities, and outpatient facilities throughout Maryland. Clinicians at those facilities who seek to build their knowledge base beyond entry level are faced with the challenges of finding accessible quality programs. Nationally offered SCI courses commonly cost well over $500 for a two day course and require extensive travel.
This unique education series will provide current information and treatment best practices to clinicians who provide care for veterans and non-veterans with SCI/D requiring skilled rehabilitation.
